Is it really pro-choice?, or right to life?

Last night as I was checking my Facebook page, I ran across a dear friend of mine's frustration over Dr. Tiller's violent death by a "pro-life" individual. Many individuals took his post as a venue for hate and literally trashed the poor guy, they were even spouting scripture, which in my opinion should be utilized for expressing the love of God, not hatred (so much for love thy neighbor). Abortion is a volital issue and one that is consistently a wedge issue in various elections and for the Republican party's far right, an issue that determines who they will support, regardless of any other qualifications the person possesses (Sara Palin for example).

I think we can agree that most people are pro-life. The gentleman I spoke of in the beginning of this post works for a non-profit AIDS prevention organization (can you get more pro-life than trying to stop the spread of AIDS?) Although I am pro-choice, I am also pro-life - I can't even kill spiders that constantly plague my home, but I do believe that it is not a valid option to have someone tell me what to do with my uterus.

I cannot say that I have ever had to make a hard choice such as whether to have an abortion or not. I was fortunate in that I am married and have a husband who supports my desire to be a mother and take care of my children. I respect any decision a woman chooses. I do not respect those who stand in judgment over others who may not have another choice. I also do not deem those individuals who spout negativity regarding this issue, credibility because many of them are hateful and do not do a damn thing to make the situation better for those children who are on this earth now (such as taking in a foster child), they just sit in judgment, which they believe makes them powerful. Maybe many of those individuals should be using their energies to work with a grass roots organization to allow for better health care, better sex education in schools (i.e. something other than abstinence, because it has been found not to work, ask Bristol Palin), making adoption more affordable and equitable (such as allowing homosexuals to adopt), helping a single mother with her children with livable monetary contributions or child care so she can work or go to school.(as is done in Ireland, where abortion is illegal)..the list goes on. Instead they take those of us who express our frustration with unwanted pregnancies or are pro-choice and deem us hateful and "children of Satan", or even in the worse case scenario murder and terrorize abortion clinics.

Until anti-abortion individuals and pro-choice individuals agree that something has to be done to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies, or provide a way to help those who happen to become pregnant this issue will continue to fester and incidents like the murder of Dr. Tiller will continue to plague our country - making us a nation of violent anti-life terrorists.
